The arts in Judaism

Cycle of lectures 2008 organized jointly by the Nahmanides Institute for Jewish Studies and the Chair Ferrater Mora of Contemporary Thought of the University of Girona

In this cycle we propose to analyze different aspects, and from different perspectives, the theme of artistic activity in Judaism over the centuries. The cycle focuses mainly on the plastic arts, and presents issues such as the ban on creating images, and the response that this ban has had in the Jewish artistic tradition, or how the visual arts translate aspects of memory, Jewish tradition and culture.
