Els manuscrits il·luminats: la història d'Israel en imatges
Lecture by Cindy Mack
Wednesday, April 30,
Institut d'Estudis Nahmànides
Lecture of the cycle "The arts in Judaism". In this cycle we propose the theme of artistic expression in Judaism, and how some of the visual arts translate aspects of memory, tradition and Jewish culture, cause their authors are of Jewish origin.
Medieval Catalonia was the setting for the production of important illuminated Hebrew manuscripts, which describe and evoke diverse aspects of Jewish culture, religion and history. The detailed study of these images allows a better knowledge and a new vision of the history of the Catalan Jews and their traditions, customs and beliefs.
Cindy Mack holds a Phd in Art History from New York University and she is Professor at Boston University in Madrid. She is a specialist in illuminated Hebrew art and manuscripts, author of Arte español en Nueva York and co-author of the book Buscadores de belleza, which deals with the life of some of the world’s greatest art collectors.
