Les Arts en el judaisme

Les imatges prohibides i les seves estètiques

Lecture by Jörg Zimmer

Wednesday, June 25,
Institut d'Estudis Nahmànides

Lecture of the cycle "The arts in Judaism". In this cycle we propose the theme of artistic expression in Judaism, and how some of the visual arts translate aspects of memory, tradition and Jewish culture, cause their authors are of Jewish origin.

The session will have two parts. In the first, the mosaic prohibition of images will be analyzed in the context of the Hebrew Bible, and then in the framework of monotheism in general. The second part will be dedicated to the reconstruction of the prohibition of images in different historical moments of Jewish culture.

Jörg Zimmer is Professor of Aesthetics and Director of the Department of Philosophy and Philology at the University of Girona. He has studied philosophy and Germanism at Osnabrück and has a doctorate from the Dutch University of Groningen with a study on Ernst Bloch. The main areas of his dedication are aesthetics, dialectics and contemporary German philosophy.
