The Mayor of Girona visit Poland in the framework of a meeting to promote the recovery of Jewish Heritage

The Poland General Consulate has invited a delegation of mayors and Catalan institutions to visit the Central European country to strengthen the cooperation bonds between the two territories


In the framework of a meeting organized by the Poland General Consulate, the Mayor of Girona, Carles Puigdemont, visited during four days the Central European country with the aim of strengthening bonds between regions that works for the recovery of Jewish heritage. The consulate invited also a delegation of mayors and institutions among which were the mayors Ferran Salvador Bel from Tortosa; Lluís Guinó from Besalú and Llàtzer Sibís from Sort; the director of the Barcelona Center for Contemporary Culture, Vicenç Villatoro; representatives of the Barcelona Provincial Council, or Assumpció Hosta, Patronat Call de Girona director.

Another purpose of the meeting is to improve the knowledge of the Jewish heritage interpretation of several polish cities and cooperate in the recovery of the Jewish heritage.

During these days, the Catalan delegation met with the Jewish Diaspora affairs plenipotentiary Minister, Sebastian Rejak; representatives of the Spanish Embassy in Warsaw and representatives of the Cervantes Institute in Warsaw and Krakow, and held meetings and interviews with representatives of Jewish organizations and Jewish Community Center, the Shalom Foundation and the Jewish Historical Institute. They also visited the Museum of Polish Jewish History, the Museum of the Warsaw Uprising and the concentration camps of Auschwitz and Auschwitz-Birkenau.
