Yom Tov Assis, in memoriam

Yom Tov Assis was professor of Jewish History at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. His major work was dealing about the communities of Catalonia, Aragon and Navarra during the Middle Ages. He was the author of various works which have been a reference base for the studies or research in these aspects. Among them we have to mention The Golden Age of Aragonese Jewry. Community and Society in the Crown of Aragon, 1213-1327, published in London in 1997.

Professor Assis was also member of the Council of Advisors of the Municipal Board Patronat Call de Girona. His contribution in the recovery works and in the promotion of the Girona Jewish history has been very important. He was also the president of the Society for Sefardic Studies, which these days is meeting Girona, at the Nahmanides Institute for Jewish Studies), where they held its annual Congress.

Yesterday, Sunday June 16th, at the Opening of this Congress, Deputy Mayor Ms. Marta Madrenas and Professor Jose Ramon Magdalena (UB), have reminded Professor Assis with emotive words, who was very appreciate by his professional colleagues.
