Title: The Favorite Game Author: Leonard Cohen
First published: 1963
The adolescence and youth of Lawrence Breavman, only son of an old Jewish family of Montreal, are made of blinding colors and sudden moments of worries and darkness. His father died and he doesn't really understand how or why; the adult games of love and war, with their infinite possibilities of fantasy and cruelty excite and worry him both.
For a while, he lived to the full the adventure nights with Krantz, his colleague and confidant. His life changes in college, although the intensity he lives in doesn't diminish. The anxiety and desire neither do, as his flee to New York proves. And strictly speaking his life started then, when he meets Shell, a girl who will make him discover love and its demands.
