The Festival of Lights, one of the most popular events on the Jewish calendar, will take place today at the Vi square at 7:00 p.m.

The city of Girona celebrates tonight the Hanukkah festival, one of the most popular events on the Jewish calendar. The Plaza del Vi will once again be the setting for the lighting of the candelabrum, in a public, festive act open to all citizens that will begin at 7:00 p.m. The Deputy Mayor and Councilor for Culture of the Girona City Council, Quim Ayats, will participate in the party.

This 2022, the festival began on the night of December 18 with the lighting of the first candle and will end next Monday, December 26. In Girona it is celebrated today, the day that coincides with the lighting of the fifth flame of the candelabra. During the event, organized by the Girona City Council and the Girona-Costa Brava Jewish Community, the rabbi of the community will explain the ritual meaning, light the first candle and recite the blessings. Then, as is customary, the testimony will be transferred to different groups for a participatory lighting, until reaching the fifth candle.

The party will be animated with the participation of the Cat Klezmer Trio group with a repertoire of traditional songs. Public will be able to taste sufganiyot, the typical doughnut of this festival of Jewish tradition.
