Abendino's Journey

Al Tayr Ensemble concert

Thursday, July 10,
Museu d'Història dels Jueus

Abendino's Journey narrates the exodus of a Sephardic Jew from his native Granada to Constantinople, the result of the expulsion ordered by the Catholic Kings in 1492.

During his journey across the Mediterranean, Abendino comes into contact with several cultural, religious, and musical realities, not without danger, until his final settlement in Constantinople.

The program includes the reading of a series of poetic texts by Sephardic authors and historical documents, which frame the narrative and explain the unfolding of events. The program also includes a repertoire that includes Renaissance and medieval compositions (taken from the Cancionero de Palacio and Codex Squarcialupi, among others), combined with Sephardic songs and oral tradition pieces from the Balkans and Anatolia, using both historical and traditional instruments from the different cultures surrounding the Mediterranean.

Jon Wasserman, vocals and plucked strings
Olga Rodón, flutes
Alberto Espinosa, percussion

Free entry with limited capacity.
