The sculpture La Justícia (Justice) by Emília Xargay

Girona City Hall has the sculpture La Justícia (Justice) by Emília Xargay temporarily out on loan to the Community of Madrid region.

This work forms part of the selection that the curator Raquel Barrionuevo chose to form the corpus of the exhibition Re-Existences. Twentieth-Century Female Sculptors. Visitors to the exhibition can see 33 sculptural works created by women over the course of the last century. Xargay, along with Hortensia Núñez de Lavadeze and Teresa Eguíbar stood out as artists from within a generation of female sculptors working in the 1960s but who achieved only a local or regional renown.

Other works by Emília Xargay have been in the news lately. More specifically, we refer here to various sculptures and stained-glass windows that the artist created for the former chapel in the Girona bullring precinct. The city council has drawn up an inventory of them and has undertaken to conserve them as part of the municipal art heritage.
