Josep Claret, rationalist architect

The architect who introduced the rationalist current to Girona city

29 OCTOBER 2009 – 14 FEBURARY 2010   (Sala d'exposicions)

This exhibition will reveal Claret's various architectural and plastic idioms. We will discover Josep Claret Rubira, a so-far little-known architect. We will be tracing his evolution as a planner on the basis of rationalism, as a member of GATPAC, through to the historicist and monumentalist architecture pertaining to the period following the Spanish Civil War.
The personal and political rupture of this architect after the Spanish Civil War can be seen, without a shadow of doubt, in the unequivocal about-turn in his understanding of architecture and in his espousal of the aesthetic canons of the new Franco regime. Furthermore, the economic development of the nineteen-sixties led to a gradual disinterest in architectural creation.

Project curator: Rosa Maria Gil and Gemma Domènech.
Organised by: Architects' Association of Catalonia. Girona branch and Girona City Council
With the collaboration of Caja de Ahorros del Mediterráneo. Obres Socials and UdG.
Entry free of charge
