Girona Gran Fondo race village will be set up in Les Sarraïnes gardens from 9 to 11 June

06/06/16 | For the third edition of the Girona Gran Fondo festival the organisers will once again provide a village space to support the cycling competitions and open up the event to Girona's citizens.

The cyclists' reception area, which will be open from Thursday to Saturday, from 9 am until 12 am, will be set up in front of the Les Sarraïnes building. This will be the start and finish line for all the trials taking place during the week, as well as the stage for awarding the prizes. The race village will also host various activities, such as a barbecue on Thursday night and a ‘botifarrada' on Saturday lunchtime.

On Thursday, between 8.30 pm and 10.00 pm, the night race will take place through the streets of the city's historic quarter, with a timed section between the Sobreportes gate and Sant Domènec convent. On Friday 10 June, from 4 pm to 8 pm, it will be the turn of the urban downhill, between Gironella Tower and Plaça del Oli, while Saturday is reserved for the main event of this cycling festival: the 125 km Girona Gran Fondo trial. The race starts at 9 o'clock in the morning at the Arab Baths, and the riders are expected to arrive at 3 pm at the Girona-Fontajau municipal sports centre.

During Girona Gran Fondo, an action will be carried out to promote Girona's recognition as a Sports Tourism Destination (DTE). The activity, addressed to European tour operators specialising in road cycling, has been organised by the Catalan Tourism Agency in collaboration with Girona City Council and the Costa Brava Girona Tourism Board.
