The competition to choose Catalonia's favourite monument is now open

29/03/16 | A competition organised by Descobrir, Sāpiens and the Catalan Government's Cultural Heritage Agency will decide which monument is Catalonia's heritage icon.

From 16 March to 18 May, the magazines Descobrir and Sāpiens are running a public competition on the website in which Catalans can vote for their favourite monument from among ten heritage elements selected by a committee of historians and art historians. Among the ten shortlisted locations are three monuments in the Girona Counties, including the Call or old Jewish quarter in Girona, so we encourage you to submit your vote.

The ten shortlisted monuments are: the Roman amphitheatre in Tarragona, the Empúries archaeological site, the church of Saint Climent de Taüll and the Romanesque churches of La Vall de Boí, the monastery of Santes Creus, the historical complex at Sant Pere de Rodes, Miravet castle, the Palau de la Música Catalana, the monumental complex on Seu Vella hill in Lleida, the Sagrada Familia and the Call or old Jewish quarter in Girona.

Votes can be submitted for any of the ten shortlisted monuments until 29 March, after which the two heritage sites that receive the least votes will be eliminated. On 30 March the knockout round will begin, followed by the semi-finals from 27 April until 10 May.
