Increased visits to the Girona Turisme website

08/02/16 | In 2015, the number of visits to the Girona Turisme website rose by 24.71 % over 2014.

The more than 360,000 unique visits registered on the tourism website confirm the positive evolution of this virtual space, which during 2015 was visited by 71,460 people more than the previous year. Compared with 2014, the most important increase in visits was recorded in the winter months (January, February and March). The greatest rise occurred in January (73.35%), followed by March (39.32%) and, finally, February (31.18%).

The new website, active since 2013, is a vital tool for promoting tourism in the city. Since it was created, the different sections of the website have been expanded and publication of news and the calendar of events has been intensified, with continuous updates in four languages (Catalan, Spanish, English and French).

The significant increase in the number of visitors to the website could be due to improvements made to the site, the expanded news and information provided or the rise in non-seasonal tourism. Events such as Girona10, the impact of the restaurant El Celler de Can Roca and the filming of Game of thrones, as well as the various festivals held in Girona, have all helped to promote the city throughout the entire year.

Work is also being carried out on tourism social networks to redirect users to the website, and through monthly videos to publicise activities and attractions that the city offers visitors all year round.
