The fourth edition of Girona10 establishes itself as the city's great winter event
29/01/15 | The fourth edition of Girona10 (held between 23 and 25 January) has positioned this initiative as the city's great winter event, achieving excellent results in terms of hotel occupation and the level of participation in the various activities that were organised.
The city's hotels were over 75% full on Friday and 90% full on Saturday and it has been calculated that the restaurants served more than 24,000 menus.
This year was marked by the very positive public response to the parallel activities that were organised around the event and designed to publicise other different events taking place in the city during the year. Some of the positive indicators generated by the weekend include a 22% rise in visitor numbers at municipal museums and the city's monuments compared to last year and an increase in sales of special €10 tickets for performances in the January-June season at the Auditorium and Municipal Theatre (328 tickets sold this year compared to 161 last year).
The Tourist Office on the Rambla received close to 13.5% more queries than during last year's Girona10 weekend. In addition, compared to the previous weekend (17 and 18 January) the office received 61% more queries. Of these, 76.78% were made by Spanish citizens, of whom 89% were from Catalonia. Of the latter, 45% came from the province of Barcelona and 52% from the Girona counties. In the light of these results Girona's Tourism and Trade councillor announced that Girona10 "is becoming the winter festival for Girona's citizens" and highlighted the excellent response to this event from "the private sector, citizens and tourism".
