The Casa Masó collection joins the Google Art Project

22/10/14 | Google offers users a virtual tour of the house-museum and a closer look at one of Masó's works of art in gigapixel format, as well as presenting 102 pieces from the collection.

From today, the Casa Masó collection is the third collection in Catalonia that can be viewed through the Google Art Project, after the earlier addition of collections at MNAC and the Episcopal Museum of Vic, making it the first Catalan house-museum to be included. In this first upload, the Rafael Masó Foundation presents a gallery of high-quality images of 102 works of art, decorative art, furniture, photographs, textiles and household objects.

The Rafael Masó Foundation gallery in the Google Art Project also provides the opportunity to take a virtual tour of much of Casa Masó in an interactive application that uses Google Street View to allow users to discover many works of art in their habitual setting.

Since it was chosen to join the Google Art Project in 2013, the team at the Rafael Masó Foundation has been working with technicians from the Google Cultural Institute, who have travelled to Casa Masó from the UK, Italy and Poland to work on different aspects of the image gallery which has been launched online today.
The Google Cultural Institute has enlisted the help of hundreds of museums, cultural institutions and archives in order to display artistic and cultural treasures from around the world online. Currently, users can view more than 74,000 works of art from 424 collections.
