Girona heads the league table of jobs in tourism for the whole of Spain

27/08/14 | In the first third of 2014, the city of Girona headed the league table for jobs in tourism, according to the latest figures from the Spanish Association of Tourism Professionals, Exceltur, which also underlines the city's 48th place on the list in 2011.

The Exceltur Barometer also emphasises Girona's leadership in profitability of tourism establishments in the first four months of the year, with a growth of 33.1%, compared to a variation rate of -16.5% in 2011 when it came in 46th position in Spain as a whole.

Since 2011, the City Council has been backing tourism as a key sector for the city's economic recovery.
Most tourists in the city of Girona come from Madrid or from France. Girona City Council has therefore stepped up promotion on these markets by focusing on the direct high-speed rail connection. Efforts to promote the city are also being made in Catalonia, mainly in Barcelona, and in the promotion of major events such as the Flower Time Festival and Girona10, and the creation of new products intended to attract new publics such as the "Girona, City of Festivals" brand.
