Chaplin in pictures
An attractive, revealing exploration of the life of Charles Chaplin, blending biography, cinema and the history of culture.
21 OCTOBER 2008 – 28 FEBURARY 2009 (Sala d'exposicions)
Chaplin's career is reviewed, along with the keys to his success and his contribution to the birth of a new image of man in the twentieth century. By combining photographs, posters, magazines, documents and extracts from his films, an overview of the artist and his work is presented. Chaplin was a precursor in a new language: the silent film.
This exhibition seeks to highlight the importance of the cinema in the sensibilities and outlook of millions of people. Chaplin succeeded in creating a character who was to become universal. However, his importance in the history of the twentieth century is not limited to his contribution to the cinema: as an actor, director, script-writer and composer of the music for his films, he also became a symbol of the artistic avant-garde, brought social issues into his creations, and played a leading role in public life through his nonconformist stance and through the persecution he was subjected to in the United States of the cold-war years.
