Territorial Network of Museums of Girona Region

November 27th, officially presented




On Friday November 27th at 11 am at the Art Museum of Girona, the act of constitution and presentation of the new network that brings together museums of the surrounding region it took place. The act was chaired by the Catalan Conseller of Culture, Ferran Mascarell, and the president of the Provincial Council of Girona, Pere Vila, along with mayors and heads of the 27 museums that are part of this network, the first system of regional networks the Generalitat of Catalonia which is deployed in the territory to ensure the preservation and dissemination of movable heritage of Catalonia in concert between the various institutions that manage.

Girona network is part of the plan of territorial networks of museums of the Department of Culture, which should be the basic instrument for channeling concerted policies to support the country's museums. It is the result of the agreement signed on April 9th between the Catalan Agency for Cultural Heritage of the Department of Culture and the Provincial Council of Girona. Since then, the 27 museums in the Girona region who wanted to take part have formally acceded. The Museum of Jewish History joined last October by decision of the president of the Board Patronat Call de Girona.

During the ceremony of the 27th, the main strategic lines, the actions carried out during 2015 and the network action plan for 2016-2020 were presented.

Its main objective is that museums become main cultural facilities, with their modernization and actions for creation of public, by strengthening its social function. At the same time, it wants to ensure the capacity to provide basic services for every museum.

During 2015 the network has already made 10 joint actions, such as the audit of the museographies of the 27 museums for limitations of each space, or a first phase of the suppliers database. By 2016, the network has provided 11 lines of work and 23 potential actions.
