International Holocaust Remembrance Day. Ceremony in Girona

January 27th was designated the International Memorial Day to commemorate the victims of the Holocaust by a Resolution of the United Nations. It is the date of the liberation of Auschwitz-Birkenau death camp.

Tomorrow in Girona, at 8 p.m., the Bonastruc ça Porta Centre will house a commemoration ceremony of the memory against oblivion, conducted by writer Mr. Antoni Puigverd and presided by the Mayor Mr. Carles Puigdemont. An event which mainly aims to keep alive the memory of the Holocaust and promoting education to prevent racism and intolerance, with the lighting of seven candles to remember the victims and music by Col·lectiu Brossa.

Under the inspiration of the theme "Freedom, life and legacy of Holocaust survivors" the celebration of this year coincides with two important events: the 70th anniversary of the end of World War II and the founding of the United Nations.
