We will talk about four languages related to the Jewish world, throughout history:
- Hebrew, the language par excellence of the people of Israel, and one of the most singular languages in the history of mankind, with more than three thousand years of age.
- Yiddish, the language of the Jewish communities of Eastern Europe before the Holocaust, and carrier of a huge literary wealth.
- Judeo- spanish, dialect spoken by the Spanish Jews expelled from the Iberian Peninsula, and by their descendants.
- Catalan. The Jews living in the Catalan-speaking territories during the Middle Ages wrote in Hebrew but spoke Catalan, like the rest of the population of this region.
